Judges’ Chief and Justice Minister Clash Over Almasri Case Comments

A public dispute has erupted between Cesare Parodi, President of the National Association of Magistrates (ANM), and Justice Minister Carlo Nordio regarding the Almasri case. The conflict stems from Parodi’s suggestion that a potential trial involving Nordio’s chief of staff, Giusi Bartolozzi, could have political repercussions for government ministers.

Speaking on Radio Anch’io, Parodi stated, “A trial where certain facts are established, perhaps definitively, evidently has a political fallout, not even that indirectly, on the individuals involved,” referring to the possibility of Bartolozzi facing trial.

Parodi’s remarks provoked a strong reaction from Minister Nordio: “I am dismayed by the words of an ANM president considered, until now, balanced. I don’t know how he dares to cite my chief of staff, whose name, as far as I know, is not mentioned in the court documents. If it were otherwise, I would have to deduce that Parodi is privy to confidential information.”

Nordio further condemned the comments: “As for the political aspect, I consider these statements, made by an authoritative ANM representative, an improper and unacceptable invasion of institutional prerogatives.”
