Ex-Milan Official Admits Regret Over Contacts in Urban Planning Probe

During questioning by preliminary investigations judge Mattia Fiorentini, former Milan city councilor Giancarlo Tancredi conceded that reviewing communications “with hindsight, I might have been better off avoiding” discussions regarding urban development proposals. Tancredi—currently under house arrest alongside ex-Landscape Commission president Giuseppe Marinoni and others in a city planning corruption investigation—referenced his “willingness to engage” on contentious metropolitan infrastructure projects involving Marinoni’s “nodes and gateways.” The ex-councilor acknowledged the “Marinoni node” situation could appear compromising, stating: “I now realize this might cause some embarrassment.” Despite this, Tancredi maintained all actions served the “public interest.”
