Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Showcases Ireland’s Enchanting Landscapes

The second season of the hit series ‘Wednesday,’ premiering August 6 on Netflix, was filmed across scenic locations in Ireland’s Wicklow, Dublin, and Offaly counties. Co-producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar hailed the Irish backdrops as “truly magical,” praising their ability to infuse “timeless beauty, wonder, and epic spectacle” into the show’s universe.

Standout locales include Powerscourt Demesne in Wicklow—part of Ireland’s Ancient East—featuring its iconic waterfall and gardens, previously seen in ‘Vikings’ and ‘Disenchanted.’ The estate also houses a distillery, golf club, and the five-star Powerscourt Hotel, ideal for fans exploring the countryside via complimentary bicycles.

In Offaly, the gothic Charleville Castle—another Ancient East gem—boasts the 400- to 800-year-old King Oak, a relic of Ireland’s ancient oak forests. Dublin’s atmospheric Deansgrange Cemetery, final resting place of icons like Sinéad O’Connor and writer Flann O’Brien, hosted key scenes.

Gough noted that while Season 1 “set a benchmark,” Season 2 expands the show’s scope: “Wednesday’s journey grows darker and more complex as she confronts family, friends, fresh mysteries, and old adversaries at Nevermore.” Director Tim Burton returns as executive producer.

For immersive autumnal visits, travelers can start in Dublin and venture by train or bus through Ireland’s Ancient East, where misty vistas evoke Nevermore’s eerie allure.
