Senate Confirms Fox News’ Jeanine Pirro as Top DC Prosecutor

The US Senate confirmed former judge and television personality Jeanine Pirro as the US Attorney for Washington D.C., making her the latest Fox News host appointed to a high-level position by former President Donald Trump.

Pirro secured the post with a 50-45 vote following a specific request from Trump for the Republican-majority Senate to convene over the weekend to approve his nominees. Trump, who frequently recruited from conservative media personalities, had named Pirro interim US Attorney for the capital in May.

The 74-year-old former Westchester County, New York, prosecutor, whom Trump called “one of a kind,” gained prominence hosting programs including Fox News’ “Justice with Judge Jeanine” for 11 years. As one of the nation’s top federal prosecutors, Pirro joins other Fox alumni in senior roles: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth co-hosted “Fox & Friends Weekend,” and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy was a reality TV contestant and Fox Business co-host.

However, Senate Judiciary Committee’s top Democrat Dick Durbin asserted Pirro “should never be a permanent US Attorney,” citing her promotion of conspiracy theories about Trump’s 2020 election loss to Joe Biden. Pirro was also a prominent figure among hosts implicated in the Dominion Voting Systems defamation lawsuit, which led Fox News to pay a $787.5 million settlement. Pirro is additionally known for authoring several books supporting Donald Trump.
