A 7-year-old boy from the Naples province is in intensive care at Santobono Hospital in Naples after nearly drowning this afternoon at Erchie beach in Maiori, Salerno. The child was swimming with his family on the Amalfi Coast when he reportedly suffered a sudden illness in the water. A lifeguard from a nearby beach establishment rescued him and administered first aid. Emergency services, including a Red Cross ambulance from Cetara, a medical motorcycle unit, Maiori Local Police, and personnel from the Harbor Master’s Office, responded within minutes. Due to the boy’s critical condition, medics requested an air ambulance, which performed an emergency landing at the Erchie quarry.
