A dramatic high-speed pursuit between Italian military police (Carabinieri) and a fleeing vehicle unfolded today between Nocera Inferiore and Pagani in the Salerno province. The suspects’ car, carrying two men, ultimately crashed into a sidewalk. The pursuing police vehicle swerved to avoid a collision, striking a lamppost instead. Both officers sustained injuries.
One officer suffered a broken kneecap and multiple bruises, requiring ongoing hospitalization. The other, treated for bruises and trauma, has been discharged.
Police apprehended one suspect immediately at the scene. The second fugitive escaped but was later identified by officers from the Nocera Inferiore Territorial Unit, led by Captain Giovanni Cappa.
Pietro Pentangelo, Mayor of Corbara and coordinator of local mayors, expressed community solidarity with the injured officers. In a message wishing them a swift recovery, he emphasized “the importance of their work for citizen safety” and “appreciation for the courage and dedication shown in protecting residents.”
Democratic Party (PD) MP Piero De Luca also conveyed “full solidarity” with the officers, stating: “The work and courage of the military personnel involved and all law enforcement is fundamental to ensuring safety in our community. This is why their presence, resources, and patrols must be supported and strengthened.”
Brothers of Italy (FdI) MP Imma Vietri added: “Once again, our officers demonstrate with courage and self-sacrifice how crucial their work is for community safety. Incidents like this cannot leave us indifferent: violence and lawlessness have no place in our territories.”
