Two Austrian tourists, a father and son, were injured this afternoon after falling from a balcony railing at the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, Italy. Initial reports indicated only one person was hurt, but health service sources clarified in the evening that emergency services treated two individuals at the scene.
The 55-year-old father sustained the more severe injuries, including head and back trauma. His 14-year-old son suffered bruises to his left elbow and wrist.
The incident occurred when the pair leaned against the first-row balcony railing to take a selfie. The protective barrier gave way, causing them to fall approximately 2.5 meters (8 feet).
