Pope Leo arrived at Tor Vergata on Sunday to preside over the concluding Mass of the Youth Jubilee. Before the liturgy, the pontiff toured extensively in the popemobile through all sectors where young pilgrims had camped overnight, despite some rain. Youth enthusiastically greeted the Pope, affectionately throwing flags and stuffed animals towards him.
“Good morning everyone and a blessed Sunday. I hope you managed to get a little rest,” Pope Leo told the crowd gathered at Tor Vergata. “Now we begin the celebration of the Mass, which is the greatest gift Christ has left us,” he added.
Prior to the Mass, the Pope acknowledged all contributors to the Youth Jubilee’s organization. He thanked representatives from the Diocese of Rome, the Civil Protection Department, law enforcement agencies, and Agostino Miozzo, the Jubilee Assistance Coordinator. Monsignor Rino Fisichella, head of the 2025 Jubilee, presented the lengthy line of dignitaries to Pope Leo.
Commenting from the Rome Police Headquarters’ Major Events Room, Police Chief Roberto Massucci stated, “This was the Jubilee’s most demanding week, the largest event organized here in the last 25 years. Everything proceeded smoothly thanks to the efforts of 10,000 men and women from law enforcement, alongside volunteers, Civil Protection, and the many young people who participated in this great jubilee event.”
