Financial police (Guardia di Finanza) in Catania, assisted by units from Caltanissetta, have seized assets worth €7 million from entrepreneurs Giuseppe and Domenico Gentile, a father and son duo. Judicial authorities identify the pair as prominent members of the Nardo clan, described as the Lentini (Syracuse) branch of the Santapaola-Ercolano mafia family based in the Etna region.
The seizure order, issued by the Court at the request of the Catania District Prosecutor’s Office, targeted three commercial businesses active in road freight transport and real estate trading, along with financial assets registered in the suspects’ names.
Giuseppe ‘Pippo’ Gentile, who died in 2022, had previously received a definitive conviction for mafia association and faced other criminal proceedings, including charges related to the “fictitious registration” of assets in collusion with his son Domenico.
According to the Catania Anti-Mafia District Directorate (DDA), Domenico Gentile, who is also on trial for aggravated extortion, allegedly managed the family businesses during his father’s period of imprisonment.
The seizure resulted from investigations conducted by the Guardia di Finanza’s Economic-Financial Police Unit (Nucleo PEF) in Catania, upon which the Prosecutor’s Office based its successful request to the Court.
