79-Year-Old Man Dies in Fatal Fall While Painting Bar Shutters

A 79-year-old man died on Tuesday morning after falling approximately 4 meters (13 feet) from a ladder while helping his grandson repaint window shutters in Torre d’Isola, near Pavia.

The incident occurred at a bar located in the Massaua hamlet, owned by the victim’s grandson. The elderly man was working on the first-floor shutters when he fell.

Emergency medical services (118) responded, resuscitating the man at the scene before transporting him via ambulance to Pavia’s Policlinico San Matteo hospital. Despite these efforts, he succumbed to his severe injuries shortly after admission.

Officers from the Pavia Carabinieri and inspectors from the local Public Health Agency (Ats Pavia) also attended the scene. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fall, which may have resulted from a sudden illness or a loss of balance.

While classified as a workplace accident, investigators noted the assistance was provided informally due to the family relationship, lacking a formal employment contract with the bar owner.
