US Tariffs Threaten 97% of EU Exports, Warns Top Official

European Union exports to the United States worth €380 billion – representing 70% of the total – are currently subject to tariffs, according to Leopoldo Rubinacci, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Trade Directorate. Rubinacci stated that the US administration is conducting investigations, specifically under Section 232 of the 1962 Trade Expansion Act, targeting aviation products, pharmaceuticals, critical minerals, timber, copper, and other goods. Should the Trump administration impose tariffs on these additional items, Rubinacci warned the proportion of affected EU exports would surge to 97%. He made these remarks during a hearing at the European Parliament’s International Trade Committee.
