Hayati Aroyo, a 62-year-old man of Turkish origin, was found murdered in the night between Tuesday and Wednesday in Sesto San Giovanni, near Milan. The killing, involving dozens of stab wounds, does not appear linked to organized crime. After the attack, the apartment was deliberately set on fire.
According to Milanese newspaper reports, Aroyo was the brother-in-law of Huseyin Sarai. Sarai was murdered in Crotone on January 31, 2005, while Aroyo was reportedly driving the car. Mobile Squad police investigating Aroyo’s death discovered articles he had kept about his brother-in-law’s killing within the apartment.
Aroyo was staying in the apartment, which had been loaned to him by a 20-year-old student away on vacation. Investigators believe the victim likely knew his assailant. The attacker inflicted over 20 stab wounds, left the scene, and then returned to set the fire.
