Italian authorities have arrested Ivanhoe Schiavone, son of imprisoned Casalesi clan leader Francesco “Sandokan” Schiavone, alongside an accomplice following an investigation by Naples anti-mafia prosecutors. Schiavone, the last free son of the clan boss currently held under Italy’s strict 41bis prison regime, faces charges including money laundering, self-laundering, and extortion.
The Carabinieri investigative unit in Caserta executed the arrests under the direction of prosecutors Nicola Gratteri and Michele Del Prete. Authorities allege the duo employed mafia-style methods to illegally reclaim control of two land parcels valued at €500,000. The properties near Grazzanise airport, originally registered to a straw man by the elder Schiavone to avoid judicial seizure, were inherited by the straw man’s children after his death and subsequently rented out.
Investigators claim Schiavone and his associate used intimidation tactics to force the tenant to terminate the lease agreement and waive pre-emption rights. This maneuver aimed to facilitate the land’s sale to pre-selected buyers, allegedly allowing Ivanhoe Schiavone to access needed funds. The 13-hectare (32-acre) plots, located near the agricultural business once controlled by Sandokan, are now subject to preemptive seizure.
