Sinner Makes History as First Italian Wimbledon Champion

Following his triumph, Jannik Sinner experienced a whirlwind gala evening – from an intimate chat with British royalty to the traditional ball before All England Club members – capping off his historic Wimbledon victory with profound emotion.

The world number one, an incurable perfectionist, sought advice even before the trophy ceremony. He asked the tournament supervisor how to address the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, the patron of the prestigious London club, ensuring he adhered to proper etiquette. Upon returning to the clubhouse, Sinner found not only Kate waiting, but also the heir to the throne, Prince William, and their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. Sinner thanked the royals for attending his final against Carlos Alcaraz and exchanged light-hearted remarks with the children about their tennis practice.

“It was an honor to play in front of you,” Sinner told the family, adding it was “even more special because this time my whole family was present in the box, which doesn’t usually travel with me.” Prompted by Kate, who called him an “inspiration” to her children, Sinner asked George and Charlotte if they played tennis and with what racket. He also answered the tournament patron’s questions about his celebration plans and upcoming vacation.

After fulfilling media duties with hours of back-to-back interviews, Sinner returned to the club in the evening for the traditional Champions’ Dinner. Following time spent at his rented house near the courts, he joined the exclusive gathering of All England Club members for the gala. During the dinner, the tournament champions, Sinner and Poland’s Iga Swiatek, were invited on stage to dance to *Feel it Still*. Dressed in a black Gucci suit and tie – the brand for which he is a global ambassador – Sinner overcame any initial awkwardness with a contagious smile while dancing with the 2025 Ladies’ Champion. Concluding his public commitments, the South Tyrolean returned home early to celebrate privately with his team, family, and friends.
