Sardinia has become the first region in Italy to pilot easy-to-use, portable rapid test strips capable of detecting common drugs used in drink spiking within seconds. Each kit contains eight disposable tests.
The “CYD – Check Your Drink” project, presented to the regional Health Department, aims to become a widespread, accessible, and integral prevention tool. It is promoted by the Nuoro Anti-Violence Center ‘Onda Rosa’ in collaboration with diagnostics company Voden Medical.
Currently active in Nuoro with free distribution via Onda Rosa, the project targets island-wide expansion. This will be achieved through partnerships involving civil society, trade associations, and the public sector.
“This is not a one-off initiative, but a concrete health and social intervention against a real threat present also in Sardinia,” declared Rosa Canu of the regional Health Department. She confirmed plans to integrate the kits into the regional network of Anti-Violence Centers.
Voden provided the initial kits free of charge and committed to long-term project support, working with local networks. Schools, public venues, and healthcare facilities will also be involved.
“Fear and control are a political act, prevention is a subversive act,” emphasized Luisanna Porcu of Onda Rosa.
