Police Chief Calls for Knife Sale Ban to Minors Amid Rising Violence

Italy’s Chief of Police, Vittorio Pisani, has urged lawmakers to consider banning the sale of knives to minors, citing the alarming rise in violent assaults committed by youths using bladed weapons. Speaking during a hearing before the Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry on Suburbs, Pisani highlighted the current lack of restrictions. “We need to reflect on the sale of bladed weapons to minors. There is no prohibition now; we have one for serving alcohol, but a minor can go to a shopping center and buy a knife,” Pisani stated. He emphasized the urgency, noting “in this current climate where we record daily violent attacks committed by minors using small bladed instruments,” and questioned whether a legal ban could act as an effective deterrent.
