Milan prosecutors have requested six arrests, including that of city councilor Giancarlo Tancredi (responsible for Urban Regeneration), in a branch of the investigation into urban planning management. Prosecutors proposed house arrest for Tancredi and one businessman, while seeking jail for a former president and a member of the landscape commission, plus two other developers. Charges include corruption and forgery.
The Guardia di Finanza’s Economic and Financial Police Unit (GdF) is today conducting searches, seizing documents, and notifying suspects, including prominent developer Manfredi Catella, of preliminary questioning by the investigating judge. Catella, founder and CEO of the Coima group – involved in major projects reshaping Milan’s skyline like Porta Nuova, the Pirellino skyscraper, Porta Romana rail yard redevelopment (Olympic Village), and the Library of Trees near Porta Garibaldi – was served the notice while about to board a flight. Searches were executed at his properties.
World-renowned architect Stefano Boeri, famed for the Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest), is also under investigation in this new phase of the GdF probe into Milan’s urban planning. No pre-trial detention was requested for Boeri, though searches were carried out. The investigation reportedly involves the Pirellino redevelopment. Boeri is already a defendant in two other Milan cases: alleged auction rigging and false statements concerning the European Library of Information and Culture (BEIC), and building code violations related to the Bosconavigli project.
As part of the new probe, the GdF unit is also seizing documents via a production order from City Hall offices, alongside multiple searches targeting officials. Searches were conducted at Councilor Tancredi’s home and office; prosecutors seek his house arrest on corruption allegations.
