For over a century, trade union struggles have helped shape the European social model – a benchmark for workers’ rights worldwide. The effective right to work and to fair wages enabling a free and dignified existence have driven progress, social cohesion, freedom, and civilization.
President Sergio Mattarella stated these remain indispensable goals, especially amid geopolitical upheavals, climate challenges, and technological innovations. These transformations impact not only production systems but the very anthropological dimension of society.
The remarks came in a message from Italy’s head of state marking the 20th CISL Confederational Congress.
