An ultralight aircraft crashed around 7:00 PM in the rural area of Accadia on the Dauni Mountains within Italy’s Foggia province. The pilot, the sole occupant, survived by parachuting from the aircraft and sustained only minor abrasions.
The aircraft was en route from Sibari in Calabria to Benevento in Campania when it likely struck dense vegetation at Crispignano (elevation: 1,050 meters) due to suspected engine failure and adverse weather conditions. After losing control, the pilot deployed his parachute and landed amid the foliage. Authorities have impounded the aircraft.
The pilot personally alerted emergency services. Responders included Accadia’s local police, carabinieri, and medical teams from the 118 emergency service, who airlifted the man to a hospital via helicopter. Accadia Mayor Agostino De Paolis coordinated the operation after activating the municipal emergency center.
Residents of Accadia and neighboring towns reported hearing a loud boom from the crash.
