The casualty count from Russia’s massive overnight missile and drone assault on Ukraine has risen to six injured, with one fatality confirmed. Kyiv police reported via Telegram, as cited by RBC-Ukraine, that five individuals aged 36–55 and a 15-year-old girl sustained shrapnel wounds. Initial media reports indicated only one injury. The deceased was a man in Kyiv’s Solomyanskyi district. The attack damaged a kindergarten, a metro station, warehouses, and multiple vehicles.
Russian forces executed a large-scale combined air offensive overnight, deploying attack drones and missiles from multiple bases. Explosions reverberated across several regions. Ukraine’s Air Force Commander Timur Tkachenko stated Russian drones were detected over Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson oblasts.
Kyiv’s air raid alert commenced around 23:00 local time (midnight CET). Air defenses activated 40 minutes later, followed by reports of Tu-95 strategic bombers launching from Russia’s Olenya airbase (Murmansk region) 20 minutes afterward. Sequential alerts tracked drones advancing toward Boryspil, Hlevakha, Vasylkiv, Brovary, Kyiv, Zolotonosha, Balakleya, Chornobay, and Monastyryshche.
At 02:18 local time, Russia fired Kalibr cruise missiles from the Black Sea toward Kyiv, igniting the roof of a non-residential building in Darnytskyi district. Kharkiv’s Kyivskyi district reported damage to at least 11 buildings, though no casualties were immediately confirmed. By 03:00, Kh-47M2 Kinzhal hypersonic missiles were launched from MiG-31K aircraft, targeting Kyiv and Rivne/Dubno. Another cruise missile group moved from Odesa to Vinnytsia oblast amid ongoing drone attacks.
Repeated MiG-31K takeoffs prompted further alerts. At 03:50, air-launched missiles entered Ukrainian airspace via Kharkiv oblast toward Poltava, later traversing Chernihiv toward Kyiv. Missile alerts resumed at 04:18, followed by powerful explosions in the capital at 04:20. Ballistic missiles targeted Kyiv at 04:23. Ukrainska Pravda confirmed one death and one injury in the capital by 05:00.
In parallel developments, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported Ukrainian drone strikes on the Russian capital for the fifth consecutive night. Rostov Oblast Governor Yuri Slyusar stated debris from downed drones caused a fire at Kamenolomni railway station (approximately 38 km from the Ukrainian border). Three people were evacuated, with preliminary reports indicating no injuries. A floral shop also burned in Kamenolomni. Drones were downed over Novoshakhtinsk, Shakhty, and Novocherkassk.
Sobyanin confirmed five drones targeting Moscow were intercepted overnight, with two destroyed over the city and others outside its limits. Moscow’s Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports imposed temporary flight restrictions following the attacks.
