Italy Establishes Tariff Task Force, Pushes Export Diversification

Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced the creation of a permanent task force on tariffs at the Foreign Ministry (Farnesina) to support businesses. The announcement came during an afternoon meeting with company representatives.

Minister Tajani explained that negotiations with US counterparts will continue in the coming days to finalize details in specific sectors, including the wine sector, which is of particular interest to Italy.

The Italian government has already requested that Brussels activate European monitoring of the tariff agreement’s impact, added a Farnesina note. The government also pledged to continue efforts to strengthen the Single Market, simplify rules, diversify trade relations, and reduce dependencies.

“In this perspective,” the government reiterated its strong commitment to “pursue with determination the strategy of diversifying export destination markets.” This will be achieved through implementing the Action Plan for Export in high-potential non-EU markets. The plan aims to assist Italian companies entering new high-growth markets and promote the internationalization of the national production system.

This strategy also relies on strengthening the promotion tools of the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), including support for Italian firms’ participation in major international trade fairs, facilitated financing from SIMEST, and a further broad extension of SACE’s Push Strategy to reach new international markets and clients.
