The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) destroyed tens of thousands of humanitarian aid packages, including large quantities of food destined for Gaza residents, after the supplies deteriorated and expired during weeks of waiting on the Palestinian side of the Kerem Shalom crossing. Israeli broadcaster Kan reported the destruction, citing military sources who estimated the destroyed supplies amounted to over a thousand truckloads. “We buried everything and even burned some,” a source stated, adding, “Even today, thousands of packages are waiting in the sun, and if they are not transferred to Gaza, we will be forced to destroy them.”
This report of aid destruction comes as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, marked by severe shortages of food and essential goods, worsens daily. The Kan source attributed the destruction to a “problem in the distribution mechanism,” asserting “The mechanism simply doesn’t work” and has not been fully regulated. “The trucks get stuck,” the source said, “and the coordination isn’t working either.”
