Family Reconciliation Party Turns Deadly in Fabrica di Roma, Brother-in-Law Killed

A domestic dispute escalated into tragedy last night in Fabrica di Roma, a town in the Viterbo area’s Cimini mountains. Ene Dumitri Daniel, a 30-year-old Romanian national, allegedly beat and kicked his 47-year-old brother-in-law and compatriot, Crisan Valentin Ionut, to death.

Daniel, with prior convictions for drugs, assault, and theft, was recently subject to a restraining order from his partner – who is also the victim’s sister – due to domestic abuse allegations. This order had been reinforced with electronic monitoring.

The couple had recently attempted reconciliation following the birth of their child. The fatal incident erupted around 11 PM yesterday during a small family gathering at their home celebrating the reunion. An argument suddenly ignited between the two brothers-in-law, who were present with their sisters and Crisan’s father, possibly sparked by the woman connected to both men. The dispute rapidly deteriorated into a savage brawl involving kicks, punches, and blows with blunt objects. Crisan sustained severe injuries; during the fight, he managed to text his wife asking her to take him to the hospital.

As the situation worsened, one of the women present desperately loaded the injured Crisan into a car to rush him to Civita Castellana hospital. However, this “journey of hope” ended abruptly on Via Roma when Crisan suffered a sudden collapse. He got out of the car, collapsed on the ground, and died shortly afterwards. Emergency services (118) arrived but could only confirm his death.

Shortly after, Carabinieri from Fabrica di Roma found Ene Dumitri Daniel nearby, also injured. He was taken to the police station. Overnight, he was questioned by Prosecutor Paola Conti of the Viterbo Prosecutor’s Office, which has opened a murder investigation and formally listed him as detained.

Daniel must now appear before a preliminary investigations judge (GIP) for arrest validation. Authorities await autopsy results, as an initial external examination revealed no visible wounds sufficient to explain the death. The autopsy may determine if Crisan died from internal trauma caused by an unseen but fatal blow.

Meanwhile, the community of Fabrica di Roma has rallied around Crisan’s wife and young daughter. Crisan was widely respected. “He was a worker and a good person,” a local resident told ANSA. “He was loved by everyone in town, and whoever is responsible for his death must be punished harshly. The whole town will miss him.”
