EU Set to Suspend Countermeasures as US Tariff Deadline Approaches

The European Commission expects US executive decrees implementing a 15% tariff to be formally adopted by August 1st. Following this, the EU plans to suspend its retaliatory countermeasures starting August 4th, thereby avoiding their previously scheduled activation on August 7th. EU sources disclosed this timeline the day after a tariff agreement was reached with the United States. While already approved by member states, the countermeasures will remain prepared for potential reactivation if necessary. However, the same sources clarified that “this scenario is not the starting point for the new phase of transatlantic relations.”
