The European Central Bank’s supervisory arm will implement stress tests targeting geopolitical risks for banks in 2026, according to ECB Supervisory Chair Claudia Buch. Speaking before the European Parliament, Buch emphasized that “banks should strengthen their resilience against immediate macro-financial threats and severe geopolitical shocks.” She stated: “Building on this year’s stress test, the 2026 thematic exercise will require banks to assess how company-specific geopolitical risk scenarios could significantly impact their solvency.”
