Messina State Police have arrested 60-year-old Michelangelo Corica, a DJ from Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto (Messina), on murder charges. Corica was under investigation for the killing of 75-year-old Russian caregiver Raisa Kiseleva, whose body was discovered in the Longano stream on July 12th. Following a request from prosecutors, a preliminary investigations judge (GIP) signed a warrant ordering Corica’s preventive detention in prison.
According to investigators’ reconstruction, the suspect allegedly invited Kiseleva to follow him into his house on July 7th. The victim, seated on a low wall bordering the stream bank at the time, reportedly refused. Police state that “the man allegedly made contact with her which, given her precarious position, caused her to fall into the stream bed, resulting in her death.”
Investigators further allege that Corica did not attempt to help the caregiver, who was reportedly still alive at that point. He is accused of leaving the scene, thereby causing her death. Her body was found days later.
