Forestry Carabinieri have confiscated twelve dogs—including Cirneco dell’Etna and medium-sized Schnauzer breeds—from an illegal breeding operation in Val Ceno, Parma. Inspections conducted alongside veterinarians from Parma’s Local Health Authority (USL) and OIPA animal welfare inspectors revealed the animals were kept in filthy, poorly lit enclosures constructed with unsuitable materials. These conditions were deemed incompatible with the animals’ psychological and physical well-being.
The breeder now faces investigation for animal abandonment due to unlawful detention practices. Following the seizure, the dogs were placed under the care of OIPA’s Parma chapter and ENPA’s Borgo Val di Taro volunteers.
Animal welfare associations covered all medical and maintenance costs while specialists implemented rehabilitation programs. Coordinating with Parma’s Prosecutor’s Office, the Forestry Carabinieri finalized procedures to formally transfer custody to these organizations. The groups have now secured permanent legal ownership of the dogs.
