Capri Holds Security Summit Following Tourist Mugging Incident

Mayor Paolo Falco convened an emergency security summit at Capri’s Town Hall with all local law enforcement agencies. The meeting, prompted by the mugging of British Lord Ara Darzi on Sunday evening around 10:30 PM, focused on strategies for the entire summer season. The incident occurred on Via Vittorio Emanuele, steps from the island’s famous Piazzetta, drawing significant attention to local security concerns.

During the session, chaired by Mayor Falco, officials developed specific security strategies and tactics. A series of formal requests to bolster safety measures were finalized and will be submitted to the provincial authorities (Prefetto) and law enforcement leadership.

Representing the municipal administration alongside the Mayor were councilors Vanessa Ruocco and Mirko Avellino, who hold specific delegated responsibilities. Minority councilor Roberto Russo also attended.

Mayor Falco outlined immediate actions, including “a significant reinforcement of video surveillance systems” and formally requesting “additional law enforcement personnel from the authorities for territorial control.”

While these steps address the immediate needs of the ongoing tourist season, Mayor Falco also committed to developing a comprehensive, long-term monitoring plan. This plan aims to enhance security not only in the central streets but also in outlying areas and along roads leading to landing points, including public docks.
