Partner Arrested for Suspected Murder in Comasco Woman’s Hanging Death

A Como court, acting on the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, has ordered the arrest of Daniele Re, 34, the live-in partner of Ramona Rinaldi, 39. Rinaldi was found hanged in their shared home in Veniano, Como province, during the night of February 20-21. Re was detained in Milan this afternoon and is under investigation for aggravated voluntary homicide and domestic abuse.

Prosecutors assert that Rinaldi did not take her own life, as initially thought, but was strangled. Re had called emergency services at dawn on February 21, claiming he awoke around 5:00 AM to find his partner missing, later discovering her body in the shower stall.

Subsequent investigations by the Carabinieri raised suspicions. Key inconsistencies emerged, such as the unexplained operation of a washing machine in the bathroom, which contained Rinaldi’s nightgown among other items – suggesting an attempt to destroy evidence. Neighbors also reported hearing a loud thud around 1:00 AM that night, a noise Re stated he did not hear.

The autopsy examination reportedly revealed further evidence concerning the time of death, contradicting Re’s account. Prosecutors indicate the murder motive may stem from Re’s fear, reportedly expressed to acquaintances, that Rinaldi intended to leave him.
