Negotiations for the renewal of Italy’s national metalworkers’ collective agreement, which expired in June 2024, recommenced today at the Confindustria headquarters in Rome. The talks bring together sector unions and employer associations.
Key participants include Fim Cisl Secretary Ferdinando Uliano, Fiom Cgil Secretary Michele De Palma, Uilm Secretary Rocco Palombella, the newly elected president of employers’ federation Federmeccanica, Simone Bettini, and Assistal president Roberto Rossi.
The negotiations had stalled last November due to significant differences between the parties, primarily concerning wages. Unions have called forty hours of strike action in recent months. Speaking Friday upon his election to lead Federmeccanica, Bettini expressed belief that “market conditions could help us find common ground,” despite acknowledging “significant” remaining gaps. “We will work forcefully and intensively,” Bettini added, “to deliver a new contract for the workers.”
