China’s economy grew 5.2% year-on-year in the second quarter, according to official data released today, meeting forecasts despite trade pressures as robust exports offset challenges. The Asian nation’s leadership faces a multi-front battle to sustain growth, complicated by US President Donald Trump’s tariff campaign.
Retail sales climbed 4.8% annually, falling short of economists’ 5.3% projection. Conversely, industrial output surged 6.8%, exceeding the anticipated 5.6% rise. “The national economy withstood pressures and achieved steady improvement amid difficulties,” stated Sheng Laiyun, Deputy Director of China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). He emphasized that “both production and demand registered steady growth.”
