The Italian government has declared a 12-month state of emergency for six municipalities in the Vicenza province following severe weather events on April 17-18, 2025. The affected towns are Arzignano, Brogliano, Cornedo Vicentino, Recoaro Terme, Trissino, and Valdagno.
Proposed by Civil Protection and Sea Policies Minister Nello Musumeci, the cabinet approved an initial €3.75 million from the National Emergency Fund for urgent interventions. The decree also authorizes the head of the National Civil Protection Department to issue emergency ordinances overriding standard regulations, in coordination with the Veneto Region, for the emergency’s duration.
“I pledged the government’s and my department’s full commitment to support these hard-hit communities during my meeting last month in Rome with local administrators,” stated Minister Musumeci. “Discussions with regional experts led to this measure, which I presented to the cabinet this afternoon and was approved. Implementation now rests with local authorities.”
