CELLE DI SAN VITO, Foggia – Italy’s smallest municipality in Puglia is celebrating the arrival of its 144th resident. Baby Leonardo was born on July 10th, named after his grandfather, a local council member who has proudly displayed a blue ribbon on his front door since the birth.
The parents are both young: mother Caterina, a homemaker, is about to turn 20, while father Andrea is a 27-year-old carpenter. Friends and relatives, including those living far from Celle di San Vito, are taking advantage of the summer to visit the town, offering congratulations and meeting the newborn.
Leonardo is the second baby born in Celle di San Vito in 2025, following Isabel’s arrival in April. This matches the two births recorded throughout 2024, which were both girls. The municipal administration confirmed two deaths have also occurred since the start of the year, resulting in a stable total population of 144.
“The birth of a child and the growth of a family with very young parents are tremendously significant events for a small community like ours,” stated Mayor Palma Maria Giannini. “Beyond bringing immense joy, they help nurture the future of a community determined to grow and believe in its tomorrow. Indeed, all current and planned municipal projects focus precisely on the present and future.”
The Mayor also announced that the program of summer events for Celle San Vito will be unveiled shortly. “We are preparing a truly special calendar of events for everyone,” Giannini added, “It will be a wonderful way to celebrate the first summer for our newest residents, Isabel and Leonardo.”
