Following a week of cooler temperatures and thunderstorms, stable weather conditions are returning across Italy starting today due to an encroaching African anticyclone. While temperatures will rise, meteorologists predict the increase won’t reach exceptional levels, except for potential peaks of 35°C (95°F) in the South. By midweek, cooler northeastern currents are expected, triggering local thunderstorms over the Triveneto region and the mid-to-upper Adriatic coast.
Federico Brescia, a meteorologist with www.iLMeteo.it, commented on the pattern: “The scenario we just experienced, which might have seemed anomalous or even cool, actually aligns with typical Mediterranean summer climate. Models indicate the last ten days of July will be dominated by African heat. We forecast potential temperature peaks of +28°C (82°F) at 1500 meters altitude, which translates to ground-level conditions becoming particularly unpleasant, especially across Central and Southern Italy. However, it’s possible the African high-pressure dome won’t extend too far north, allowing some thunderstorms over the country’s more northern areas.”
