European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the EU has developed a second list of potential countermeasures, while emphasizing that deploying them is not yet necessary. “We have drawn up a second list of possible countermeasures,” von der Leyen stated during a press briefing. “We are not at that point yet. This is very important. Now is not the time,” she clarified. However, she underscored that the preparation “also shows we are ready for all eventual scenarios.” Von der Leyen’s remarks highlight the EU’s stance of preparedness while signalling a preference to avoid immediate escalation.
