The partner and mother of 35-year-old Alessandro Venier are suspected of his murder and dismemberment, with both women reportedly confessing to the crime. Venier’s remains were discovered in the basement of his home in Gemona del Friuli, covered in layers of quicklime, likely to conceal the body and odor. The death occurred several days prior.
Police were alerted to the scene around 10:30 AM today by the victim’s partner and mother themselves. Emergency medical services dispatched to the location quickly confirmed the man had been dead for days and their intervention was unnecessary. Investigators found the dismembered body parts placed inside a large bin in the cellar.
Authorities swiftly focused suspicion on the victim’s 30-year-old Colombian partner and his mother. Both women have been taken to the police station for questioning, ANSA reports, citing sources authorized by the lead magistrate. The Carabinieri are conducting the investigation under the coordination of the Udine Prosecutor’s Office.
The precise roles each woman played in the incident remain under investigation.
Gemona del Friuli Mayor Roberto Revelant expressed shock: “To my knowledge, nothing like this has ever happened here. It is an extremely grave and harrowing event.” He added he did not know the victim personally, noting reports that Venier often worked abroad and had no prior contact with the family. “The couple have a very young child, just a few months old, who now needs to rebuild her life. The entire community of Gemona is rallying around her. We are providing utmost care through Social Services to ensure her security and a dignified future,” Revelant stated.
