Lonely Planet’s latest publication, ‘Alpi on the Road’, details 50 scenic routes – 25 within Italy and 25 crossing international borders. Designed for exploration by car, motorcycle, or camper, these itineraries traverse the entire Alpine arc, linking Italy, France, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany, Austria, and Slovenia on a route stretching from Munich to Trieste. The publisher states the guide is “designed for those wishing to experience an unforgettable adventure while fully respecting the Alpine environment.”
Authored by Piero Pasini and Denis Falconieri (who also edited the volume), the guide meticulously plans each route. “Every journey,” the description continues, “is crafted to lead travelers along panoramic and evocative roads, supported by detailed maps and clear, step-by-step directions.” Practical advice is a key focus, including recommendations on mountain clothing, safety, and countless suggestions for diverse outdoor activities – from hiking and cycling to boat trips – catering to various experience levels.
