Protesters took to Trieste’s streets banging empty pots and spoons today, demanding Israel halt military action in Gaza and calling on democratic nations to ensure humanitarian aid reaches Palestinians. The demonstration culminated in participants lying on the ground while recorded sounds of Gaza bombings played, symbolizing daily life under siege. Organized by the May 27 Protest Committee alongside unions and other groups, the rally in Piazza della Borsa drew an estimated 700 people, according to police. Their core demands were an immediate ceasefire and an end to international silence on the crisis. Peace flags and Palestinian banners filled the square. Signs carried stark messages, including an image of a severely malnourished child, the slogan “This isn’t Auschwitz, it’s Gaza,” and the phrase “Silence is complicity.”
