Naples prosecutors have authorized the release of the bodies of three construction workers who died in a fall last Friday. The victims are identified as Vincenzo Del Grosso, 54, of Naples; Ciro Pierro, 62, of Calvizzano; and Luigi Romano, 67, of Arzano.
Autopsies were performed yesterday as part of an ongoing investigation into multiple counts of involuntary manslaughter. The probe aims to determine the cause of the fatal accident in the Rione Alto district, where the workers plunged approximately 20 meters after the upper section of the construction lift carrying them to a rooftop terrace collapsed.
Funerals could potentially be held as early as today, pending the families’ decisions.
Four individuals remain under formal investigation in the case, coordinated by Prosecutor Nicola Gratteri: entrepreneurs Vincenzo Pietroluongo and Carlo Napolitano, building administrator Luca Luciani, and site safety manager Gianluca Di Franco.
While defense lawyers Mauro Zollo and Giovanni Fusco opted against appointing their own experts for the autopsies, Daniele Cacciapuoti, representing the Pierro family, did appoint an expert. The defense attorneys stated they will appoint technical consultants for the forthcoming court-ordered examination of the lift system, a crucial step in determining the cause of the incident. All three workers were reportedly unrestrained at the time of the fall.
