Italian PM Meloni Arrives in Ethiopia for UN Food Summit and Bilateral Talks

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni arrived in Addis Ababa on Tuesday for a two-day official visit to Ethiopia. She will participate in the third UN Food Systems Summit Stocktaking Moment (+4) on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Italian Ambassador to Ethiopia Agostino Palese welcomed Meloni upon her arrival. Her first engagement involved meeting a delegation of Italian religious workers active in humanitarian projects. Ethiopia hosts a significant community of Catholic missionaries who, through years of extensive work supporting local populations in fragile and remote areas, have become a cornerstone of the Italian presence in the country.

Meloni then proceeded to the National Palace for a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

Her schedule concluded with a meeting with African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat. In the evening, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed hosted a State dinner honoring delegation heads attending the UN summit.
