Sicily to Offer Tethered Balloon Flights Over Segesta Archaeological Park

Visitors to Segesta Archaeological Park in Trapani province will experience an unprecedented aerial perspective this summer through tethered hot air balloon flights organized by the Sicilian Region. From July 16-20, anchored balloon rides will operate daily from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM, offering 10-minute flights for groups of up to five passengers (including children) plus the pilot.

The balloon will ascend to a maximum height of 15-20 meters, providing panoramic views of the ancient site. Concurrently, the Doric Temple area will extend evening access during these hours with reduced admission prices.

“This initiative presents an innovative and immersive way to experience the park,” stated Francesco Paolo Scarpinato, Regional Councillor for Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity. “It combines the enchantment of evening vistas with a unique perspective, offering visitors an unparalleled view suspended between sky and history.”

The project is managed by Volare sull’Arte, a Campania-based social enterprise specializing in promoting cultural sites through alternative viewpoints. The balloon features accessible boarding, accommodating passengers with disabilities. Visitors are advised to wear comfortable clothing and flat-soled shoes, though strollers cannot be brought aboard.

All flights will adhere to ENAC (National Civil Aviation Authority) safety regulations and will be canceled during adverse weather conditions or strong winds.
