Chiara Petrolini, the young woman under house arrest accused of killing and concealing the bodies of two newborns she delivered by burying them at her family home in Vignale di Traversetolo (Parma), has been authorized to sit her Criminology exam at university. As reported by La Gazzetta di Parma, the Court of Assizes granted the defence request, permitting Petrolini, who has been under house arrest for nearly a year, to take the exam with Professor Susanna Pietralunga at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore).
Petrolini, 22, is a second-year student in the Education Sciences degree program. At Unimore, Criminology is a mandatory course for socio-pedagogical professional training.
Her trial before the Parma Court of Assizes began one month ago. The next hearing is scheduled for September 15th, when a psychiatric evaluation will commence. This evaluation, requested by the defence and approved by the judges, will assess Petrolini’s mental capacity and will at the time of the alleged crimes, as well as her current social dangerousness. Court-appointed experts will be assisted by prosecution and defence consultants, who have so far reached opposing conclusions.
