Pietro Esposito, a 76-year-old man, died while waiting for an ambulance on the island of Capri. Both emergency vehicles stationed on the island were engaged elsewhere at the time of the call. One ambulance was transporting medical samples for analysis in one area, while the other was at the Anacapri helipad after transferring a patient requiring airlift to Naples. By the time the latter vehicle was dispatched to assist Esposito, who was in critical “code red” condition, he had already died.
Capri Mayor Paolo Falco addressed the incident, stating: “There is certainly a problem because the island territory is complex. When the second ambulance is tied up, particularly during the summer season and for time-sensitive emergencies, it can become critical. Therefore, we will request solutions to further strengthen the 118 emergency services, especially during the tourist season.”
