The Senate approved a constitutional reform bill to separate the careers of prosecutors and judges, clearing a second legislative hurdle with 106 votes in favor, 61 against, and 11 abstentions. The bill, which aims to restructure Italy’s judiciary, now returns to the Chamber of Deputies—where it passed on January 16—for a third review before heading back to the Senate.
During the vote, opposition lawmakers staged protests in the chamber, displaying signs condemning the reform. Justice Minister Carlo Nordio attended the session.
