Ice pops solidify their status as the absolute lowest-calorie frozen dessert due to their simple composition—primarily water and sugar without fats. A sector-wide comparison reveals they contain just 35-50 calories per serving. This finding comes from consumer group Altroconsumo, which analyzed labels and nutritional data from over 200 packaged products (including cones, cups, biscuits, sticks, and ice pops) to create a ranking of the five lowest-calorie ice cream types.
Second place goes to a strawberry ice pop and vanilla ice cream hybrid bar, popular among children. Sold by multiple brands, a 51g bar provides 60 kcal. Mini cones take third place (62 kcal), followed by mini biscuits in fourth (88 kcal). Cups rank fifth, with 70-90g servings reaching 140-200 kcal, though a chocolate-and-whipped-cream variant stays under 100 kcal.
Altroconsumo emphasizes that all ice creams remain sugary desserts best consumed “in moderation—once or twice weekly.” The group notes many industrial products exceed 200 kcal per serving.
